New Zealand Work Visa: English Language Requirement Update (June 2026)

Major Update: New Zealand has expanded its English language requirement under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), effective June 2026. The rule previously applicable only to ANZSCO skill levels 4 & 5 now extends to skill level 3 roles (mid-skilled jobs across construction, healthcare support, trades, logistics, and hospitality). Minimum IELTS 4.0 or equivalent (PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT). Workers with long-term residency goals have up to five years to meet higher English standards for permanent residence pathways. Key exceptions: Global Workforce Sector Agreement roles are exempt.

New Zealand Seasonal Work Visa Pathway

Individuals already in New Zealand on student or visitor visas may apply for SSE (Supplementary Seasonal Employment) work visa for horticulture/viticulture. Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Limited Visa offers seasonal workers from Pacific islands and certain other countries to work in crop planting/harvesting.
